Flesh
Flesh is an introspective photography project that delves into the complex relationship between the human body, identity, and perception. It explores feelings of insecurity about the aging body, likening it to a ripened fruit - plump, vibrant, and fleeting, yet destined to fall and be replaced. The first segment, Ripen, uses beetroot juice to symbolise both vitality and the darker themes of injury and impermanence, creating a visceral tension between life and decay.
My aim was for the images to take on an otherworldly, surreal appearance. The female body has become a lush, overripe fruit on the verge of bursting. This tension - the fullness of ripeness teetering on the edge of rupture - parallels the human experience of youth, where the body is at its peak yet always moving toward change and eventual decline.
